1990S SLASH FADED TEE + 1978 SLASH MAGAZINE

SIZE: M
Regular price $1,200.00

Sold together with the July 1978 issue (Volume 1, No. 11) of Slash Magazine.

This tee is an extremely rare survivor from the post-magazine era. With insight from Bryan (@bryanrayturcotte) who worked at Slash Records back in the day, we learned these were printed in ’93 by master shirt printer Jeff Ross — the same printer behind the early Sub Pop tees for Nirvana, Mudhoney, Tad, L7, and more. A true artifact from the roots of L.A. punk.

SLASH (1977–1980)
An underground L.A. punk publication that documented the raw beginnings of West Coast punk. Founded by Steven Samiof and Melanie Nissen, Slash Magazine ran from 1977–1980 and quickly became the most influential punk magazine in Los Angeles. Featuring bands like The Germs, The Gun Club, Flesh Eaters, and X, Slash also interviewed icons such as John Waters and sci-fi author Philip K. Dick. The name “Slash” came from British slang meaning urination. Tower Records even refused to sell it at the time, thinking it was a horror mag because of its design.

From this zine came Slash Records (1978) — the label behind releases for Fear, The Germs, and The Plugz, shaping the sound of L.A. punk.
